Obituary of Herman Wanders

Herman Wanders, (96), of Medford, Oregon, passed away on Feb 15, 2024. Herman was born to Hermanus and Wilhelmina Wanders, on December 9, 1927, in the village of Oosterhout, Netherlands. After graduating from Agricultural University in 1948, Herman took over the family dairy farm. Then in 1953, Herman married Johanna (Ann) Kampschreur and they raised 6 children together. In 1968, the family immigrated from the Netherlands to Caldwell, Idaho and acquired a 160 acre dairy farm. With lots of hard work, from every family member, the dairy farm grew to over 300 head of cows. Over time, the six children all graduated high school, went on to college and started their own lives.

After many years of hard work and cold winters, Herman and Ann retired from farming in 1986 and moved to Medford, Oregon to enjoy a milder climate. Herman was a grounds worker at Stewart Meadows Golf Course and later at Rogue Valley Country Club golf course where he planted hundreds of trees. After leaving the golf course, Herman started his independent irrigation installation and repair contractor business, known as "Wanders Irrigation." Herman enjoyed serving many Medford area residents and commercial businesses with their irrigation needs before retiring in 2012.

Herman was a loving husband and dedicated father. Despite the around the clock work of running a family farm, Herman always made time to take the family on Sunday picnic trips. Ann would work hard to have the station wagon loaded and off the family would go for a fun adventure filled day in the great outdoors.

Herman enjoyed travel adventures together with Ann as well as going on trout fishing trips to Diamond Lake. He also enjoyed tinkering and coming up with creative home projects.

Herman is survived by his wife Ann, six children Jerome (Teresa), Marcel (Carrol), Bernadette (Barry), Ceril (Bonnie Mummert), Cinta (Ted), Lucia (Michael), 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Wanders and granddaughter, Jaunice Wanders.

Herman's family will hold funeral services Saturday, Feb 24, at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho.
