Obituary of Terry King

Terry Leigh King of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Terry was born on November 20, 1937, in Marysvale, Utah, as the second of four children of Ervin LaVon and Georgia Moore King. He grew up in a ranching family and learned the value of hard work while living on family ranches in Antimony, Utah, Mud Lake, Nampa, and Marsing, Idaho. Although worship was difficult due to remote ranch life, Terry was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at a young age. Terry attended Nampa and Marsing High School and met Marianne Dorsey in 1959. They got married in 1961 and had four sons: Terry, Todd, David, and Shawn. He worked for his father-in-law, David Dorsey, and eventually became a co-owner of Dorsey Construction with Gary Carpenter in 1973. The company was successful in the Treasure Valley and built many schools, churches, apartments, and other projects, providing employment for many people over the years. Terry was frugal, ambitious, self-determined, conservative, and unapologetic about his views. Terry loved building, and he primarily lived in homes that he built himself. He built a cabin in Leslie Gulch, Oregon, and an aluminum jet boat for fishing in Hells Canyon and other adventures. He was also a skilled hunter and enjoyed hunting chukar with his 16-gauge, model-12 Winchester. He married Betty Jo Flick Potter in 1987,whom he had met at Marsing High School 30 years earlier. Her parents, John and Emma Flick, and her children, Ken, Mark, and Val Potter, became important to his family and life. They lived in Boise and later built a home in Caldwell and a winter home in Arizona. They traveled to many places, including Nepal, Thailand, Brazil, and the Caribbean, enjoying life together. Terry re-committed to his faith in 2021 and was sealed to his family in the Meridian Temple. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Betty Jo King; sister, LaFaun Jeffs; brother, David King; 7 children listed above; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary. A memorial service will be held on January 20 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints, 15782 Farmway Road, Caldwell, Idaho.
