Obituary of Esther O Hernandez

Esther O. Hernandez, 80, of Caldwell died Friday October 13,2023 at St Al’s Hospital in Boise surrounded by her family until her last breath.  Esther was born in Mexico on February 27, 1943 to Rumaldo and Manuela Sauceda.  She was raised in Pharr, Texas where she met the love of her life Oscar Hernandez, and later married December 1, 1960 in Edinburg, Texas.  They made their home in Pharr, Texas raising eight children until they permanently moved to Caldwell, Idaho where they would migrate yearly for agriculture work. 

Esther was a strong, loving, hardworking mother.  Although she was strict with her kids she made sure they walked a straight path in life, she was also such a giving and humble person.  She always welcomed you to a hearty meal with her wonderful homemade tortillas and cookies.  She loved to visit and made her daily calls to her family and loved ones, calls that will be missed by all.  Her love, caring, nurturing compassionate way will live in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, friends, and those who lives she touched. 

Esther is survived by three daughters: Gloria Hernandez, Lupe (Danny) Villegas, Mary (Manuel) Gomez.  Sons: Miguel (Isabel), Oscar, Mario (Julie), Edgar Hernandez all of Caldwell. Martin (Rosie) Hernandez of California.  Twenty-five grandchildren, sixty-two great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.  Siblings: Hilda Villareal, Mary Flores, Rene, Ruben and Ricky Sauceda.  Numerous nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by husband: Oscar Hernandez Sr., parents: Rumaldo and Manuela Sauceda, sister: Etelvina De Hoyos, Brothers: Alfredo, Jose, Rafael, Juan, and David Sauceda.

Ama we will take care of Gloria and your “Huerquitas” as you asked. We Love you and will miss you terribly, but we know you are now at a better place with Apa.

A viewing for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 5-6:30 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.  Rosary recital will begin at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Valley.  Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 10:00 am also at Our Lady of the Valley.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
