Obituary of Alice Knight Levanger

Alice Knight Levanger, 87, of Hailey Idaho, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023 after an unexpected illness.

The first of five children, Alice was born on July 21, 1935 to the late Orville and Devona Knight in Mesquite, Nevada.  She moved with her family to Idaho when she was 8 years old, settling in the Kuna area and remained there until she moved to Homedale in 1949, where she graduated from high school in 1953. It was there she met the love of her life J. Clark Levanger, and they were married on June 8, 1953, a union that was to last for 70 years.  Together they raised 3 children and traveled the world as a military family.

Alice quickly adapted to the military lifestyle, effortlessly transitioning from “small town girl” to becoming an excellent role model for many incoming spouses and employees during her 28 years as a military wife and 18 years in the business world.  She proudly supported her husband’s career, seamlessly adjusting to whatever role was required. She was strong, independent, poised, a well-seasoned traveler, often making the journey alone with 3 children to whatever duty station her family was called to. To avoid the empty nest, she became a realtor and was very successful in this endeavor. Alice had a flair for decorating, and it was evident in the warm, inviting environment she created in each of her 28 homes over the years. A self-taught gourmet cook, Alice had phenomenal entertaining skills and enjoyed planning and hosting dinner parties for both business and pleasure. However, she most loved when her family and friends would come to visit, allowing her to spoil them with excellent meals and warm hospitality. She especially enjoyed being able to use her White House access and treat them to a tour while stationed in Washington D.C.

After retirement, Alice and Clark traveled all of the United States as well as the Canadian providences in their RV before establishing a permanent residence in Hailey, Idaho. At this time Alice proclaimed that her 29th home would be at the Cemetery in Homedale, her way of saying no more moving. Alice loved her home in Hailey, the snow not so much, watching the birds arrive and the flowers bloom.  A devoted wife and mother, Alice touched the lives of many and will forever be remembered for her kind and compassionate spirit, robust laugh, and sweet and loving smile.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her husband Clark, her sons John (Tammy) Levanger of Homedale, ID, and Jeffrey Levanger of Scottsdale, AZ, her daughter Jennifer Levanger of Hailey, ID and “stepson” Steve McCoy of Hailey. She also leaves her brother, Ray Knight of Pasco, WA, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She will be greatly missed by her faithful and protective grand puppy, JJ.

A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 2 pm at Marsing Homedale Cemetery at 4410 Cemetery Road in Marsing, ID.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the American Stroke Association.  Condolences and memories can be shared at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com
