Obituary of Kena Louise Pegram

Our beloved mother, memaw, daughter, and friend, Kena Louise Pegram, joined her father, granny, and other loved ones on the other side on May 2, 2023. 

 

Kena was born October 16, 1972 in Caldwell, Idaho to Kenneth Lee and Lillie Mae (Stacy) Pegram and was the youngest of three siblings (Tammy Carver and Donnie Pegram). She also had several cousins that acted as bonus siblings. 

 

Kena was the best mom to her kids Jordan Pegram and Esteban Castillo (Laura).They would often make special requests for her amazing home-cooked meals and felt the weight of the world off their shoulders as they walked in the front door. She was home. They will miss learning from her and finding balance in her presence everyday. 

 

Kena often joked that her and her daughter Jordan raised each other. Friends and family frequently commented on how similar the two were. Jordan would often call her mom to tell a story that started with, “I am more Kena Pegram than Kena Pegram” only for her to follow up with, “Hi apple, it’s me, your tree!” Kena and Jordan shared the same sense of humor, which made them usually agree they were the funniest people in the room. The pair talked everyday, often multiple times a day, and truly enjoyed each other’s presence. Jordan will miss her constant reassurance, “Mama loves you, Jordy Babe!” 

 

Kena was so proud of the man, father, and husband her son Esteban has become.  She often talked about how honored and blessed she was to be his mom. “The boy” could make her laugh like no other and they had an ongoing game of who could embarrass each other the most, usually in a public setting. Kena provided constant reassurance that she would catch him if he fell and was always by his side. On the good days and the bad, she provided a reason to put one foot in front of the other when it felt impossible. Kena provided a light that Esteban hopes to pass along to his kids. 

 

Mom was her favorite role until she became a grandma. She cherished time with her grandchildren especially over slumber parties that included her highly requested smoochies (smoothies), eggs, and tortillas.

 

Her chosen family, Ashly Cash and Christina Farnetti, were friendships she valued for more than 35 years. This time includes some memories which surely shouldn’t be made public, but valued nonetheless. 

 

Kena is survived by her mother, Lillie Pegram, children, Jordan Pegram and Esteban Castillo, daughter-in-law Laura Castillo, and grandchildren Max Castillo and Cecilia Castillo. 

 

To know Kena was to love her, and her love can never be replaced. Kena is remembered for her supportive nature, witty humor, courage, bravery, and for always being the life of the party. She was the ultimate support system and her children will forever have a fighter in their corner. Her friends and family will reminisce on time spent with her. She will be missed dearly.
