Obituary of Jeanette Mary Moist

  Jeanette Mary Moist passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023 after a valiant battle against cancer.

  Jeanette was born in Mt. Angel, Oregon to Anton and Angela (Bean) Griesenauser on May 16, 1938.  She grew up on the family farm with her two brothers, having fun with many cousins and developing a life-long friendship with school mates. She graduated from Mt. Angel class of 1952.

  After high school, Jeanette moved to Salem, Oregon, shared a house with roommates, and began work in the insurance industry. She was proudly independent, bought her first car, and enjoyed a packed social calendar. On July 15, 1959, she met the love of her life, Marvin Moist and they married on May 7, 1960.

  Jeanette and Marvin started their lives in Salem, OR and moved many times throughout Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, pursuing better job opportunities. When the girls were young, Jeanette managed the home and cared for the girls. As a housekeeper, Dad said when Mom dies, her home will stand a “Shrine to Good Housekeeping,” and she was famous for daily vacuuming her way out of the house. When the girls were older, Marvin became self-employed in the construction industry, with Jeanette as co-pilot keeping books and supporting their business.

  In the late 60’s, while living in Benton City, WA Jeanette and Marvin bought horses. They both became active in the local fair board and introduced their daughters to horseback riding and local competition. This was the beginning of a life-long infection for the family, and their lives would never be the same. Jeanette became co-pilot of the horse rig, and together they hauled the girls to as many playdays, fairs, and rodeos as schedules allowed. These were some of the best years in their lives. They built barns, arenas, corrals, worked tirelessly for fuel, fees and hay, built new friendships, and shared each moment of victory and defeat.  Today grandchildren Millie and Jake are skilled competitors. “Gram” never missed an event and stubbornly mastered live streaming to see every run made outside the local area.

  Jeanette’s hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, playing pinochle, and traveling.  Together Jeanette and Marvin were avid bass fishing competitors. One of Jeanette’s proudest achievements was the 1987 Year-end Largest Bass Award receiving a traveling trophy and was the first woman recipient!  Especially memorable trips were to two Super Bowls, High School Rodeo Finals, Mexico, New York City, Egypt, Turkey, Italy and Los Angeles to see “The Price is Right.”

She was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and participated in many opportunities to support her church and community.

  Jeanette is survived by daughter Dee (Brian) of Middleton, ID, daughter Niki (Jay Don) of Caldwell, ID; grandchildren, Waco Burford, Millie Greenwood and Jake Greenwood; great-grandchildren: Duke Burford and Zayn Burford; brother, Larry Griesenauer, nephew Kevin Griesenauer as well as beloved cousins and dear friends.

  She was preceded in death by husband, Marvin Moist; brother, Ray Griesenauser, and parents Anton and Angela Griesenauer.

  A rosary recital will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Valley Catholic Church and mass will be celebrated at 10:00am.  Interment will follow a reception at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
