John Seable

Obituary of John Arthur Seable

John Arthur Seable, of Caldwell, Idaho, died peacefully in his home on February 17, 2023, at the age of 77.

John was born to Paul Leonard Seable and Oral Amanda (Blackburn) Seable, on September 23, 1945, in Portland, Oregon. John spent his childhood years in Portland, where he enjoyed being the youngest child of nine siblings. He fell in love at first sight with his future bride, Marsha, meeting her in a primary class at church, at the tender age of eleven.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1963. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas, where his love for the Savior and testimony of His restored Gospel grew immensely. He married Marsha Palmer in the Logan Utah Temple in September 1967, for time and all eternity. Within five years, they settled in Caldwell, Idaho, where they spent the next fifty years raising their growing family. His honest nature and outgoing personality served him well as he worked in various sales positions over the course of his career. He particularly enjoyed the last twelve years of his career selling cars and trucks at the Edmark GM dealership in Nampa.

“Big John,” as he was affectionally and widely known, loved and served everyone he met. The largeness of his stature was exceeded only by the enormity of his heart. He was always willing to offer his strong hands, heartfelt hugs, his testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ, an encouraging word, or a plate of his world-famous biscuits and gravy to anyone within the sound of his voice.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rodonna Bowman, Yvonne Atamanczyk, Pauline Larson, Marilyn Ross, brother Gerald Seable, and daughter Kimberly Myers. He is survived by his older siblings Stephan (Kathleen) Seable, Winnie (Albert) Weissenbuehler, and Don (Carol) Seable, and dozens of their descendants. He also leaves behind his eternal best friend and wife, Marsha (Palmer) Seable; daughter Kimberly’s husband Roger (Sharyn), their children William, Cody, and Kalee; son John, and his wife Jenny, their children Emily, Delight, Abby, Colton, and Courage; daughter Crystal Nykreim, her husband Kjell Nykreim, and their children Vance (Kamryn), Gjori, Kjellsen, and Kjari; and, son Aaron, and his wife Marcia, their children, Jacob, Austin, Emma, Tanner, and Charlotte. John’s big heart led many others to consider themselves (as he did) as part of his big family, including especially the Mike and Malinda Karpowitz and Chad and Michelle Everton families.
