Opal Gulley

Obituary of Opal Pauline Gulley

Opal Pauline Gulley 96 years old went home to be with Jesus Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

She was born July 14,1926 at home in Huston, Idaho to Clarence and Mary Ford. Opal grew up in southern Idaho and graduated from Caldwell High School, class of 1944. Then went on to earn her Registered Nurse degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Nampa, Idaho.

In March 1948 Opal and Earl Archie Gulley were married. Between 1950 and 1953 they had four boys, Phillip (Diane), Paul (Susan), John (Debbie – deceased) and Timothy (deceased). In 1956 the family moved to San Francisco where Archie went to the School of Physicians and Surgeons and he earned his DDS. In 1960 the family returned to Caldwell, Idaho and they opened a Dental Office. Opal assisted Archie in the practice as well as doing schedules, bookkeeping and reception.

In September 1964 Timmy died from Kidney disease and was buried on his 11th birthday, October 1, 1964.

They both liked to collect things, Archie collected cars and Opal collected household items which led to them opening the “Our Memories Museum” still located at 1122 Main Street, Caldwell but now called Indian Creek Museum.

Opal and Archie were involved with Packard Automobile Club, Model T and other old car clubs in this area. Archie passed away in 2008.

They were active at the Caldwell Senior Center on Everett Street where they were able to stay in touch with friends. And Opal lunched there regularly until a few weeks before she passed.

Thank you to the wonderful caretakers from Samaritan Senior Care, especially Jo Struck and Hannah Rebman; and from Opal’s church family, First Baptist Church of Caldwell, Jamie Siewert and Susan Smallwood.

She was predeceased by her sister, Gladys Finch and brothers-in-law, Dean Finch and Glen Barney and by her sister-in-law, Gwen Barney.
