Kevin Lootens

Obituary of Kevin Matthew Lootens

Kevin Matthew Lootens was born November 20, 1960 in Nampa, Idaho, and was the middle child of thirteen siblings.  He attended Homedale schools his entire life and after graduation, he married the love of his life, Jo Johnston.  They settled in to their life together in Marsing, Idaho, where they have remained.  He and Jo were blessed with their son Trent in 1988 and their daughter Katy in 1992.

Kevin was a lifelong avid outdoorsman.  He loved the Owyhee Mountains and the property he owned on South Mountain was his special place.  He loved hunting, exploring, riding Razors through the hills, and shooting.  While no adventure was too tough for Kevin, he maintained an enduring respect for the wild. He was up for any outdoor activity that came along and loved sharing all of these things with his friends and family.

K. L. Repair has long been where everyone in Owyhee County came with anything that needed fixed.  Kevin could repair anything or make it work another way if it was beyond fixing.  He always shared his knowledge with whomever needed it at the moment.  In his younger years, he put his mechanic skills to the test by building his own demolition derby car, and then for many years after he spent time helping his competitors build theirs.  Last year, he rebuilt and restored his dream car, a 1968 Firebird, and since then many burn-outs could be heard down Edison “Speedway.”

Kevin enjoyed traveling, was an avid history buff, and sincerely loved to learn. He got to explore the Baltic’s, Germany, parts of France, Belgium, and Italy, with many stops in between.  He and Jo explored Boston and Colorado Springs with Katy and Zack, and in the last few years, he loved traveling to Maui and Austin to see his kids.  They shared great times enjoying and exploring each place and many memories were made.

Kevin left us too soon and we wish he was still with us. He felt so deeply about everyone and everything in his life. His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his being. We are saddened by his passing, but we know he was greeted with open arms by his parents, Patricia and John, his sister Melanie, his brothers Mike and Christopher, and other members of his extended family when he arrived in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; his son, Trent; his daughter, Katy Funke (Zack); his siblings, Jack (Margo), Paula, Cheryl Falk (Joe), Steve (Rose), Mark (Cindy), Kelly (Niki), Phil (Cheryl), Donna, and Patrick; and so many nieces and nephews that you cannot name them all.  He loved them all dearly.
