Obituary of Victoria Tallabas

Victoria Tallabas was born Victoria Gonzalez, on November 18, 1934 in Eagle Pass, Texas.  She was one of seven children to Antonio and Delia Gonzalez.

She married the love of her life, George Tallabas Jr. on January 1, 1952. They pursued a dream of farming with little money and a lot of grit and determination. Their farm started with 80 acres of rented land and quickly grew to over 1,000 acres of owned and leased land. Victoria dedicated her life to their farm, children and family. Working side by side with her husband, digging corrugates, setting siphon tubes, driving tractor, trucks, keeping the books and whatever else needed taken care of.

Victoria had three children: Hilda, Gerri and George III. She supported them in all their endeavors.  Ever the dedicated wife and mother, there was always a hot meal on the table for family and friends that may arrive. Victoria helped run a 1,000 acre farm, raise three kids and maintain a balance between the two . . . truly something to marvel at.  Women, wives and mother’s like Victoria Tallabas are rare. Nothing was more important than family. Her love for others, quick wit and a memory like an elephant was admired and loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children: Hilda (Thom) Nichols, Gerri Tallabas, George Tallabas; six grandchildren: Tony, Josh (Celeste), Denice, Amanda (Allen), Chenice and Matthew; eight great-grandchildren Sierra (Jake), Ariel (Michael), Hayden, Morgan, John, Joey, Lexie and Oliver; siblings Maria Elena (Alfredo), Adan, Raul (Karen), Juan (Carmen), Elida (Avalino), Antonio (Rosa); in-laws Patsy Cheatam (Dixie), Arthur (Terri), and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her her husband George, parents Antonio and Delia Gonzalez, sisters Emma Herrera and Ramona DeLuna, in-laws George and Mary Tallabas, Ernie Tallabus, Don (Chris) Tallabas, Margaret (Jake) Lopez, and Amelia Gonzalez.
