Obituary of Grace Hideko (Kawai) Yamamoto
Grace (Hideko) Kawai Yamamoto was born at sunrise on 5 September 1928, the youngest of 5
children. Her parents, Frank Shichiro Kawai and Misao Ota, were farmers and Japanese
immigrants in the Twin Falls area. She met her future husband, Junji Yamamoto, when both
were students at Idaho State. After marrying in Pocatello, they moved to Caldwell, where she
built on her sociology degree by completing her teaching certification. Grace touched many
lives while teaching elementary students in Middleton from the 1960’s until her retirement.
Grace left this life on 9 November 2021 to be with Junji, her parents, and her siblings (Mary,
Bill, George, Ruby), all of whom she greatly missed. Her daughters (Becky, Christine, Marianne,
and Debbie), her 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren are her living legacy, along with
our extended family of her nieces and nephews.
She lived at the Gables Assisted Living in Caldwell for the past 14 months. Her final days were
with supervision from Lighthouse Hospice & Palliative Care. Her family thanks them all for their kindness and patience through this part of Grace’s life and death.
There will be no public memorial service at this time. Instead, we think Grace would prefer to
be remembered by a donation to your favorite charitable organization.
