Obituary of Matthew R. Drake

Matthew Ryan Drake, 44, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away June 13, 2020.  Matthew was born to Bill and Tyann Drake on March 15, 1976, in Boise Idaho. Memorial Services will be held on June 23 at 11:00, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, Idaho.

Matthew was a simple man, a “gentle giant.”  His large stature and powerful, strong voice were noticed everywhere he went.  He truly lit up every room he entered and made fast friends wherever he went.

He absolutely loved life, despite any challenges he faced along his journey. If you were ever in need of a good laugh, Matthew was sure to make you smile.  He truly was such a funny man, with a huge heart.  He was full of love and wore his heart on his sleeve, and he was not afraid to show his sensitive side. He felt everything so deeply.

You could always find Matthew in the garage welding anything from a firepit, to candle holders for his wife.  He was so gifted as a welder and in so many other ways.  He honestly could fix anything and was a true handyman in that regard.  He could do anything he put his mind to.

If Matthew wasn’t tinkering about in the garage, he was mowing his yard with his dog Oliver right by his side.  Matthew’s goal was to always have the nicest yard on the block, and he always accomplished that.

Matthew and his wife shared a love for all of God’s creatures and were constantly rescuing any stray animals that seemed to find them. Anything from rabbits, birds, dogs, cats – if they were in need, they would show up in Matthew’s yard knowing he would help them.

In the summer months you could find Matthew with his family in the mountains, enjoying all of life’s gifts. Matthew was most at peace while camping and it was a goal of his to someday retire in the mountains.

Matthews heart was so full of love and pride. To know Matthew was to love him.  You will be forever missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.  I love you more.

Matthew is preceded in death by his Grandpa Donald Stevens Drake, Uncle Lance Olson, Grandparents Howard and Dolreta Olson, and Uncle Bob Drake.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Dew Drake, stepchildren Brooklynn and Braden Dew, parents Bill and Tyann Drake, brother Samuel Drake and niece Coco, Grandma Dorothy, Uncle Randy Drake and  Teresa Drake, Aunt Sandy Drake, Uncle Bob and Chris Burgener, and his beloved fur babies Oliver and Harry.
