Obituary of Petra Nava Flores

Petra Nava Flores, 96, of Homedale, Idaho passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 in Nampa, Idaho.  Petra was born in Martindale, Texas and raised in Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico where she married and had 4 children. Petra was a seamstress and taught home economics in Mexico for many years. She became a widow and later remarried and moved to Texas where she had 6 more children.  Eventually she and her husband began migrating to Idaho for work and in 1963 she moved to Homedale where she settled and raised her family. For many years she worked for JR Simplot until she retired.

Petra dedicated her retirement years to her family and caring for her grandchildren. She was instrumental in guiding them to lead productive and positive lifestyles.  Petra had a very giving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  Among Petra’s hobbies were gardening, she had a green thumb that produced a yard full of colorful flowers every year.  Petra also loved to embroider and sew and spent many hours lovingly making quilts that she gifted to family and friends. She lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.  She loved cooking and enjoyed everyone coming over and cooking and eating with friends and family.  Petra also was very religious and loved attending church and would strictly observe Lent each year.

 Petra is survived by her daughters Arcelia (Sabino) Hernandez of Spokane, Washington, Dolores Castilleja of Homedale, Idaho; sons, Tony (Gloria) Castilleja of Ontario, Oregon, Eligio Castilleja (Juanita Settle) of Caldwell, Idaho, Marcos Castilleja of Homedale, Idaho,  Jesse Flores (Mirella Reyna) of Star, Idaho, Frank (Yolanda) Flores of Nampa, Idaho, Mike Flores of Nampa, Idaho and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Maria Flores, sons Raymond Flores and Manuel Castilleja, parents, and siblings.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 5-8 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.  Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell. Burial will follow at Marsing Homedale Cemetery in Marsing.  A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Condolences can be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
