Obituary of Laurie Rae Palmer

It is with great sadness that the family of Laurie Rae Palmer announce her sudden passing on June 5, 2019.  Laurie battled an invasive lung infection over the last few months with strength and courage.  She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Frank and Janet Palmer, children Travis White (and Cassi),  Amber Orr (and Jerry), siblings Joy Palmer (and Rob), Billie Armenta (and Ruben), Dan Palmer and David Palmer (and Tylynne) and grandchildren Cori, Ryan, Keisha, Brady, Cassity, Justin, Kaele, Athan and Aria.

Laurie was born in Ogden Utah on July 18, 1958 and raised by her loving parents in Idaho, and Washington, then later spending time in Alaska and Arizona.  She moved back to Idaho and spent the remainder of her time near her parents and children.  Her parents were her best friends, her children and grandchildren the love of her life and her siblings and extended family meant the world to her.

She loved the outdoors; fishing, camping, hunting, skiing and golf whenever she could. Most of all she just loved spending time with her family.  She was an avid reader and always made time for a good book. Laurie was a competitor and could accomplish anything she set her mind to; whether it was sports or games, you had a formidable opponent.  In her youth she stood out in her Eastside Track Club as a talented sprinter holding records in the 4/40 relay.  She won numerous ribbons and trophies riding the family horses, Star and Buck and later, her very own horse Try, who she treasured dearly.  Laurie had a special gift for anything athletic, whether it was bowling, horseshoes or golf, she was good at it.  She loved her time in Alaska, jet boating through the state’s rivers and ocean, with her family facing challenging weather and swells as big as 15 feet.  She caught her “Moby Dick” on the Talkeetna river, a 60-pound King Salmon.  It was as big as she was!  I don’t know who was prouder, her or her father.

During her time living in Tucson she worked at the Raven Golf Club Resort. She loved that job, (who wouldn’t) running the office and in her free time, playing a lot of golf where she became quite a skillful golfer.

Laurie had a heart of gold.  Her kind and generous spirit, intelligence, wit and sense of humor will be sorely missed.  A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 15 at 3:00 p.m. at the home of Robert Walker and Joy Palmer, 1140 Lavender Court, Meridian, ID  83642.
