Obituary of Elida L. Ortiz

On May 20, 2019 we lost our beloved mother Elida L. Ortiz. Mom passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born on April 2, 1944 to Guadalupe Leos (+) and Ausencia Lopez Leos (+) in Matamoros Tamaulipas, Mexico.

  Mom lived and was raised in Matamoros. It was there that she met the love of her life, her eternal husband and our Dad, Vidal M. Ortiz. They eventually moved to Idaho, setting in Caldwell in 1984 where they continued raising their family and eventually, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She didn’t get to meet her fourth great-grandchild.  

  Mom’s greatest love and joy were her children. That love and joy grew with every grandchild and tripled with every great-grandchild. Mom was firm but fair, except with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together they ran the house and that’s exactly what she wanted. Mom didn’t allow her babies to be disciplined when she was around and as parents and grandparents, we were very aware of that and didn’t even attempt to discipline them. Mom was always ready to feed her family or to yell at us if she felt it was needed. If there was something that needed to be crocheted, Mom was there to take care of it. She always had a ball of yarn ready for what was needed.

  Surviving Mom are her seven children which include daughters, Juana Alejandra, Dora Elvia, Maria Isabel (Joaquin) and Victoria Leigh. Sons Vidal Guadalupe (Yvonne), Victor Hugo (Phaedra) and Armando (Isabel). Grandchildren Dora Esmeralda, Juan Daniel, Maria Elida, Jose Jesus, Yvonne Isela, Xavier Vidal, Armando Adrian, Maryssa Alexandra, Amanda Adrianna, Emilie Elizabeth and Isabella Elida. Also, great-grandchildren Constantine Meliton, Yamilet Mia and Damian and unborn baby Samaguey. Her survivors also include her brothers Irineo, Julian, Guadalupe and Enrique and sisters Angelica, Ofelia and Graciela.  Mom is preceded in death by two infant sons, her loving husband, her parents and brothers Ramon, Adrian and Tomas and sister Silveria.

  A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 5-8 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.  Rosary Recital will begin at 7:00 pm.  Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell, and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  Condolences can be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com
