Helen Wilson

Obituary of Helen Marguerite Wilson

Helen was born Oct 1, 1927 on the family farm in Nenzel, Nebraska.  She eventually moved in to Valentine where her family home is on the National Historic Register. As a teenager her family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where Helen graduated from high school in 1944. She then went on to study nursing at St. Anthony Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho where she met her husband, William Lorenzo Wilson. Bill and Helen married and moved to Caldwell when he graduated from pharmacy school. Helen worked at Caldwell Hospital and Bill started in the pharmacy at Pennywise Drug.

After a few years Helen stayed home to care for her eight children. Five sons kept her busy attending sporting events where she was an avid supporter of the Caldwell Cougars. Helen was very active in St. Mary Catholic Church especially running the ham dinner used as a fund raiser for several years. Helen and Bill became snowbirds after his retirement and spent 15 winters in their homes in Mesa, Arizona golfing and rooting on the Chicago Cubs.

Helen’s favorite retreat was their cabin at Terrace Lakes where she could watch and feed the birds and wildlife.

Helen was preceded in death by Bill in 2011 but is survived by her children Karen Burch of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Bob and Jorgena, Jim and Brenda and Stephen of Caldwell; Tom and Babs of Nampa; Ed and Marie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Suzette and Dan Driscoll of Meridian; and Michele Ashford of Boise, 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
