Obituary of Marceille Caroline Baer

Marceille Caroline Baer was Born on March 6, 1923 to Claude Alvis Monger and Myra Margaret Tyksen at the family ranch near Bayfield, Colorado. She attended Pargin Grade School and Bayfield High School where she graduated as Salutatorian in the graduating class of 1941. While in high school she won a Colorado State Typing contest for typing 120 words per minute, with no mistakes, and was awarded tickets to see the movie “Gone With The Wind.” After high school she worked at the Teelawucket dude ranch, a restaurant at Mesa Verde National Park, and Luke Air Force base in Phoenix, Arizona during World War II.

While attending college at Fort Lewis, Colorado she met her future husband, Edward Benjamin Baer a U.S. Navy Serviceman from Telluride, Colorado. Later, on February 7, 1945 while working at Luke Air Force Base they were married. They lived in Virginia for a time before Ed was shipped to Chicago for his final duty station. While there she worked as a secretary, and after his discharge from the Navy moved to California where she worked as a clerk at McClellan Air Force Base, while Ed was going through an electrician apprenticeship program in Sacramento.

After Ed began working as a journeyman electrician, she became a full time homemaker and soon thereafter her first son, Steven, was born on November 7, 1948 followed by her fist daughter, Pamela, on November 27, 1951. In 1955 the family moved to Denver, and a short time later to Grand Junction, Colorado. While living in Denver another daughter, Peggy was born on April 2, 1956. After two years they were back in California, where she worked as a clerk at the Aerojet Rocketdyne Corporation in Folsom. A few years later two more sons were born, Glenn, on June 22, 1962 and Douglas on May 25, 1964. Later in 1964 she returned to work at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento and retired as a senior clerk in 1986.

After her divorce from Ed and his subsequent death in 1972 she was faced with raising her four younger children all on her own. She was always very frugal and looking for ways to supplement her income. She took cake decorating classes and became proficient at making beautiful cakes. Later she would drive down to Oakland, California one night a week to take upholstery classes. She also took stenographer classes at night in hopes of becoming a court reporter. She loved to play the piano and encouraged her children to learn to play. She also loved the great outdoors and was an avid Trout fisherman.

She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on January 31, 1953, and served faithfully in many callings including that of Primary Teacher for some 20 years plus. She served as a full time missionary for the church in the Seattle, Washington Mission from July of 1988 to July of 1989. She was also a faithful Temple worker in the Oakland, California Temple for many years, and later in the Boise, Idaho Temple after she sold her home in Penryn, California and moved to Middleton, Idaho in 1997.

She continued driving her beloved 1983 Toyota Corolla 5 speed stick shift car until 2014, when she finally gave it up. She sorely missed the independence of driving where she wanted to go, and hated to impose on willing neighbors and friends for rides to church, the market, doctor’s appointments, and other errands.

She leaves behind one younger brother Bert Monger of Drain, Oregon and his twin sister Jewell Workman of Kearns, Utah, as well as all five of her children: Steven Baer, Pamela Wilcher, Peggy Snyder, Glenn Baer and Douglas Baer. She also leaves 20 grandchildren: Jody Swanson, Sarah Brown, Katherine Hogue, Robert Baer, Dari Russell, Bert Baer, Benjamin Wilcher, Alma Wilcher, Lydia Baker, Bryan Snyder, Kimberly Snyder, Patrick Snyder, Aimee Spears, Grant Baer, Scott Baer, Kody Baer, Karson Baer, Kurtis Baer, Elijah Baer, and Eve Baer, as well as 15 great grandchildren: Rebekka Witharana, Jonathan Swanson, Autumn Brown, Bradyn Brown, Simon Hogue, Sawyer Hogue, Scout Hogue, Cooper Baer, Natalie Baer, Holden Baer, Paisley Russell, Logan Wilcher, Kaydence Wilcher, Clara Baker, and Lucas Baker.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel at 624 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, Idaho 83605, and memorial services will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel at 309 West Main Street, Middleton, Idaho 83644 at 11:00 am on Saturday April 27, 2019.
