I have such fond memories of Mabel; she was a wonderful supervisor and an exceptional human being. I worked at the Crookham Seed Company from 1974 - 1986, and remember Mabel and the seed sorting room with much fondness. She made sure we all understood what we were being paid to do, but she did it with such kindness and, dare I say it? Sweetness. In my mind's eye I can still see her turning off the belts, turning down the country music station, and strolling into the kitchen for some of Jim's fresh popped popcorn. I remember the day John Lennon was shot, we were there, in the sorting room listening to music, working quietly as the news arrived. I remember getting a hug and it helped remind me the world was still full of good people: good people like Mabel.
I remember visiting her home in Wilder; it was obvious she truly loved her home and her yard - such beautiful flowers, and luscious vegetables; and she shared them all.
It makes me sad to know Mabel was so close by (only in Boise!) and I never thought to visit her. I know I would have enjoyed it very much.
I am truly thankful that I knew her and only hope that someday someone remembers me with as much fondness as I remember her.
