Obituary of Jeffrey John Smith

Jeffrey John Smith, 44, of Caldwell, ID, bid his brave and gallant battle with cancer, farewell in the early morning hours of Monday, November 19, 2018 with his wife, Brandi at his side.

Jeff was born on August 31, 1974; the first in a set of twin sons, born to Kenneth Smith and Karen (Stanton) McCulloch. Jeff’s birth was followed by his twin brother, Jamey William Smith, who was born minutes later but on September 1, 1974; a different day and month than Jeff. Jeff was educated in Caldwell, graduating from Caldwell High School in 1992. He spent his childhood on baseball fields all over the state of Idaho, traveling for Caldwell Youth Baseball and Babe Ruth tournaments with his parents and Jamey, much of the spring and summer months of his youth. He also played Legion Baseball for the Silver Streaks. In high school, Jeff was a defensive end and was proud to be a Caldwell Cougar. Upon graduating, Jeff attended the U of I and finished his college career at BSU with a degree in English Literature. He was employed with Pyramid Construction as a framer until he became an insurance agent for Farm Bureau in Caldwell, closing his career at Farm Bureau in Middleton when he could no longer work due to his cancer.

Jeff married Brandi Cope in June of 2006 and they built their life together in Caldwell. His love of baseball carried over into the lives of his 3 children and he coached and mentored them on the ballfield. Jeff coached Caldwell Youth Baseball and All Stars for several years; one of his proudest accomplishments being a trip to Oregon for regionals with his team. As an adult, you could often find Jeff and his brothers, Jamey and Marc, hitting balls with their kids, in the yard at family get-togethers. Jeff had a knack for woodworking and created many wonderful things out of wood with his hands. He was skilled at finish carpentry and tinkered with rebuilding cars. He enjoyed playing blackjack, was an avid reader and loved his Idaho Vandals! He was also well known on the golf courses in Caldwell. “Smitty” was always the life of the party and a good friend, willing to help anyone who needed him. He was a loving son and an amazing and tender father to his children.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Brandi Smith; his children, Isaiah, Riley and Anna Smith; his father, Kenneth Smith and his girlfriend, Sheila Stone; his mother, Karen McCulloch and step father, Jim McCulloch; older brother, Marc (Tracy) Smith and their children, Carson and Emma Smith; twin brother, Jamey (Erin) Smith and their children, Sydney and Kelsey Smith and his grandmother, Eileen Stanton. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many wonderful people on Brandi’s side of the family.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Kenneth Stanton.
