Marilyn Sollars

Obituary of Marilyn Sollars

On August 2, 2015, Heaven received a Saint. After faithfully struggling with multiple sclerosis for 33 years, God said it was time for his child to come home. Marilyn Sollars was born March 23, 1945 to Joe and Marybelle Mahler in Twin Falls, ID. Her father was not there at the time of her birth due to serving in WWII in Europe, so she was 8 months old when she met her daddy. Marilyn grew up in Homedale, ID and attended Marsing grade school, and graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy in 1963. She attended Northwest Nazarene College and graduated with an elementary education degree in 1967. She taught elementary school in California, Missouri, Marsing, Homedale and Vallivue. She received her Masters of Education from BSU. While teaching in Kansas City, she met her future husband, Jim Sollars on a Greyhound bus. They were married on December 16, 1972 and she became a mother instantly to Janice and Dywane Sollars. She loved them like her own. In 1975 they moved to Homedale, ID where Marilyn started teaching and Jim purchased and ran the Homedale Drive- In. In July of 1977, Cherlyn joined the family. In 1983 the family moved to Caldwell, ID. Marilyn continued to teach elementary school and during their transition from Homedale to Caldwell, she taught special education at West Canyon Elementary. Due to her complications with MS, she retired early in 1992. To keep herself active, she discovered a love for quilting and continued to be a part of bible studies, Christian women fellowships and met the needs of many others. There were many people who were encouraged by Marilyn’s cards, gifts, prayers, Bible scriptures and her generous love. Marilyn is survived by her daughters: Janice (Bill) Schiedler and Cherlyn (Corey) Winter; step son, Jim (Jenny) Sollars; her siblings: Ron (Nancy) Mahler, Connie (Alvin) Powers, Donna Willard and Don (Pam) Mahler; grandchildren: Nathan and Cecilia Schiedler, Cheri (Preston) Ward, Erica, Josh and Faith Sollars, Braxton Ah You, Braden and Morgan Winter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Sollars; her son, Dywane Sollars and her parents, Joe and Mary Mahler, B-I-L, Dennis Willard. A Viewing for Marilyn will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
